In the heart of the Arctic's icy expanse,
Horus faces a sight that makes his soul dance.
A mighty robot polar bear, guardian of the glacial realm,
Its metal form glistening, a spectacle to overwhelm.

Hello everyone, and welcome back to our bi-weekly post on this blog. Before we continue discussing the decklist, I should inform you that, as of today (written on July 28th, 2023), the booster pack, Age of Overlord (AGOV), has already been released. I recommend checking your local game store to see if they have it in stock. Similar to the previous Booster Pack, Duelist Nexus (DUNE), AGOV contains many game-changing cards, including new waifu cards. It's definitely worth exploring!
Now, let's get back to our focus for this session—combining an old archetype with a new one from the AGOV booster pack. After several deck tests, I can confidently say that this combination is quite potent, with the cards complementing each other perfectly. Let's take a closer look at the old archetype that will be the main focus of this deck.
The Ursarctic, Mecha Polar Bear archetype, plays around the concept of Negative Synchro Summoning. It was released in the Deck Build Pack: Ancient Guardians (DBAG) on March 6th, 2021, alongside the Ogdoadic and Solfachord archetypes. This archetype has captivated many players with its unique art and the allure of robotic polar bears. However, the concept of Negative Synchro Summoning can be a bit confusing. All of their Synchro Monsters cannot be summoned conventionally; instead, you need to subtract the levels of two monsters to Synchro Summon a monster with the same level. While their main monsters are strong and fearsome, the Synchro Summoning process can be challenging to execute.
For this decklist, we won't be using the Ursarctic Synchro Monsters; instead, we'll focus on the main monsters—the big dudes of the archetype. Let's look at two of the Ursarctic monsters we'll include in this deck.
The Polar Evolution |
- Both of these cards have similar effects; let's review them further:
- Both monsters have high levels.
- Their effects are Quick Effects, which means you can activate them during your opponent's Main Phase.
- All of them are Water Attribute and Beast Type monsters.
- They require you to tribute a Level 7 or higher monster from your hand to activate their effects.
As the title suggests, we'll be combining the Ursarctic archetype with the Horus archetype from AGOV. The reason for this combination is that all of their monsters are Level 8 and they gain their effects while in the graveyard. So, when they're discarded from the hand for Ursarctic's effect, they can still activate their effects.
After dumping all of the Horus monsters into the graveyard, we can activate this Spell Card to revive all of them on the field.
So, let's take a look at the decklist, and I'll also share some combos you can perform with this deck.

Now, let's review some of the cards used in this deck:
- Hop Ear Squadron
This little monster is a key tech in this deck. With its effect, you can Synchro Summon during your opponent's turn. When you activate Ursarctic's effect during your opponent's turn, you can further Synchro Summon using this monster to bring out a Level 9 Synchro Monster (as all Level 8 Ursarctic Monsters are Tuners). Additionally, when you control a Horus monster on the field, you can use this card to Synchro Summon a Level 10 Synchro Monster during your opponent's Main Phase.
- Melffy Cat
This card acts as our searcher. Since all of the Ursarctic monsters are Beast Type, you can search them with this card's effect. You can also add Hop Ear Squadron to perform Synchro Summons.
- Horus
I only run 3 copies of Imsety and one copy of the other Horus monsters. With 3 Imsety and 3 Pharaonic Sarcophagus, I believe we can perform the Horus combo more consistently.
- Ursarctic
With Mega Tanus and Mega Polar, we can disrupt our opponent's strategy by destroying their Spells/Traps or putting their monsters in face-down defense position.
The main strategy of this deck is to disrupt the enemy's combo with Ursarctic's effect during your opponent's turn. With Mega Tanus, you can flip your opponent's monsters face-down, hindering their progress. As we have an abundance of high-level monsters, we don't need to worry about the high level cost for Ursarctic's effects. Additionally, you can play high-level monsters like Kaijus or Lava Golem to use as costs for Ursarctic's effect.
Okay, let's take a look at the estimated budget for this deck!
For online view, you can check this sheet for further individual price check
Both Ursarctic and Horus are not top-tier archetypes, but some of their cards can be quite expensive. Additionally, the extra deck becomes more costly due to the inclusion of Rank 8 Xyz monsters. If you already have some parts or the core of this deck, I encourage you to try it out in real duels.
All right, that's all for today's blog. I hope you enjoy my deck idea. If you have any comment and suggestion, i hope you can comment on this blog. Thank you for reading, and happy dueling!
